A Taste of Bonaire Culinair at Wines and More

Wines and More

Last Thursday evening, we were invited to enjoy an exclusive preview of the 3-course menu that Wines and More will be serving during the upcoming Bonaire Culinair event (May 29th – June 12th). And it turned out to be a culinary experience that truly lives up to its name!

A Warm Welcome in a Living Room Setting

Located in the heart of Kralendijk, Wines and More is not just a wine bar or restaurant – it’s an invitation to feel at home. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. With the choice of indoor air-conditioned seating or outdoor dining, it’s the ideal spot for any occasion, from a quick business lunch to a relaxed dinner with friends.

We were personally welcomed by the owners, Annemarie and Mathieu. Their warmth and hospitality made an immediate impression. It felt like we were sitting down with friends. We had lovely, personal conversations, and it’s clear their passion for good food and fine wine is deeply rooted in everything they do.

Wines… and So Much More

As the name Wines and More suggests, this place offers much more than just wine. One of the first things you notice when entering is the beautifully stocked display, filled with artisanal treats like cheeses, olives, nuts, coffee, and tea – all available to take home or enjoy on the spot.

We started our evening with something unexpected: champagne tea. A refined, light tea with an elegant aroma. Unique, and perfectly in line with the creative and personal approach of the venue. Definitely worth trying!

A Preview of the Culinair Menu

The special 3-course menu for Bonaire Culinair, priced at $39.50, was a feast for the senses – refined, creative, and beautifully balanced. Each dish was crafted with care, focusing on flavor, texture, and presentation.

The evening began with a beautifully plated serving of dumplings, paired with ginger, soy sauce, spring onion, and a fresh Japanese salad. The dumplings were delicately prepared with a perfectly balanced filling and just the right texture – soft with a subtle bite. A flavorful and elegant start.

Main Course – A delicious classic Ossobuco

The main course featured a classic ossobuco. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender and fell right off the bone. What made the dish stand out was the combination with bimi (tenderstem broccoli), which was refreshingly prepared, and orzo, a pasta variety you don’t often see on Bonaire. A touch of Turkish lemon lifted the flavors beautifully.

The dessert was perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening: a creation of kumquat, white chocolate, and sesame. The creamy white chocolate was perfectly balanced by the tart and slightly bitter kumquat, while the sesame added a rich, nutty finish. A sublime end to a truly enjoyable dinner.

Don’t eat meat? No problem – a vegetarian or fish alternative is available upon request. And if you prefer something different, the regular à la carte menu is also served, offering a wide variety of options.
